NORDEN Secures Major Guinea Bauxite Transport Contract with Africa Oil Supply

Danish shipping group NORDEN has announced a significant maritime logistics agreement for Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée's bauxite exports, marking the company's second major contract award in 2025.

Copenhagen-based NORDEN has finalized a comprehensive logistics contract with Africa Oil Supply (AOS) covering the maritime transportation of bauxite produced by Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG), one of Guinea's leading mining operators. The agreement, scheduled to commence operations in early 2026, represents a strategic expansion of NORDEN's African bulk commodities portfolio.

Under the contract terms, NORDEN will implement a dual-vessel transport model designed to optimize freight economics and environmental performance. The logistics chain will involve initial loading onto Panamax-class vessels at Guinea's loading facilities, with cargo subsequently transferred at a transshipment point to larger Capesize vessels for final delivery to Chinese ports.

According to NORDEN, this staged approach leverages the superior fuel efficiency and economies of scale offered by Capesize carriers on long-haul routes, while utilizing the more port-flexible Panamax vessels for the initial loading phase. The company states this configuration will reduce overall freight costs while simultaneously lowering the carbon footprint of the Guinea-China bauxite supply chain.

The CBG contract reinforces NORDEN's growing presence in the African mining logistics sector. The company has already established operations in Gabon, where it partners with Comilog on manganese ore transportation, and recently expanded its South African footprint in Durban following its acquisition of Taylor Maritime's operations.

NORDEN maintains regional offices in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and Libreville, Gabon, positioning the company to service West and Central African mining projects. The Guinea agreement follows a similar contract secured earlier in 2025 with KMG in Australia, indicating NORDEN's systematic approach to building its global bauxite transport portfolio.

Guinea holds the world's largest bauxite reserves and ranks among the top global producers of the aluminum ore. CBG, a joint venture between the Guinean government and international mining companies, has been a cornerstone of the country's mining sector for decades. Chinese demand for bauxite remains robust as the world's largest aluminum producer continues to require substantial raw material imports.

The contract award comes as shipping companies increasingly compete on both cost efficiency and environmental credentials. NORDEN's emphasis on carbon reduction aligns with growing pressure on mining companies to decarbonize their entire supply chains, including maritime transport, which represents a significant portion of bauxite's carbon footprint from mine to smelter.

Founded in 1871, NORDEN is one of Denmark's oldest international shipping companies and provides ocean-based freight services for bulk and project cargo globally. Listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen as part of the OMX Nordic Large Cap index, the company operates offices across six continents and maintains an agile fleet strategy that adapts vessel capacity to market conditions and customer requirements.

The company's integrated approach combines freight solutions with port logistics, enabling customers to optimize supply chain efficiency while pursuing decarbonization objectives.
