Working at Heights

Working at Heights refers to any task performed at an elevated location where there is a risk of falling and sustaining injury or death. In mining operations, working at heights may occur on processing plants, conveyor systems, crushers, stockpile structures, maintenance platforms, drilling rigs, and elevated equipment. Because falls are among the leading causes of workplace injuries worldwide, mining companies implement strict procedures and controls for work conducted at height. These controls include risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, fall protection equipment, safety harnesses, guardrails, anchor points, and specialized employee training. Workers must be competent in the use of fall arrest systems and emergency rescue procedures. In bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mines, working-at-heights programs are critical components of occupational health and safety management systems. Proper planning and adherence to safety protocols significantly reduce fall-related incidents and contribute to a safer working environment.
