Ore Feed System

An ore feed system is the network of mechanical equipment that transports and regulates the flow of mined ore from stockpiles or run-of-mine bins into the processing plant, ensuring a steady and controlled rate of material delivery to crushers, mills, or other downstream units. Typical components include feed bins, apron or belt feeders, conveyors, chutes, and sometimes grizzlies or scalping screens that remove oversize material before it enters primary crushing. A well-designed feed system smooths out variability in ore supply, preventing surges or starvation that would otherwise reduce plant efficiency or cause equipment damage. In bauxite and iron ore operations, feed systems often handle extremely high tonnages and must be engineered for continuous, high-throughput operation with minimal downtime. In gold processing plants, feed systems frequently incorporate blending capability so that ore from different stockpiles or grade categories can be combined to achieve a consistent head grade for the mill. Diamond processing feed systems are typically engineered with greater care around minimizing crystal breakage, since rough handling during feeding can damage or destroy valuable diamonds before recovery.
