Moisture Analyzer

A moisture analyzer is an instrument used to determine the percentage of water content present within a sample of ore, concentrate, or other mining-related material, providing critical data for both processing control and product quality assurance. Moisture analyzers operate on various principles, including loss-on-drying methods that heat a sample and measure weight loss, microwave or infrared-based rapid drying techniques, and near-infrared spectroscopy that estimates moisture without fully drying the sample. Accurate moisture measurement is essential across the bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining sectors for different reasons: bauxite and iron ore producers must monitor moisture content closely to ensure shipped cargoes remain below the transportable moisture limit, reducing the risk of cargo liquefaction during sea transport; gold processing plants use moisture data to control ore blending and leaching efficiency; and moisture readings inform stockpile management and dust suppression strategies across all commodity types. Moisture analyzers may be deployed as standalone laboratory instruments for periodic sample testing or integrated into automated, continuous monitoring systems positioned along conveyor belts to provide real-time data feeding into process control and shipping documentation systems.
