A hydrocyclone cluster is an arrangement of multiple hydrocyclones operating in parallel within a single system to handle large slurry flow rates in mineral processing plants. Instead of using a single large hydrocyclone, multiple smaller units are grouped together to improve classification efficiency, flexibility, and operational control. In mining operations such as bauxite refining or iron ore beneficiation, clusters are commonly used in grinding circuits to ensure consistent particle size distribution before downstream processing. Each cyclone in the cluster can be isolated or adjusted depending on feed conditions, allowing operators to maintain performance even when individual units require maintenance. The cluster is fed from a common distributor that ensures equal slurry distribution to each cyclone. The combined overflow and underflow streams are then collected separately. Hydrocyclone clusters are critical in high-throughput plants because they allow scalability without compromising separation efficiency. They also help reduce wear and tear by distributing load evenly, which increases equipment lifespan and improves process stability in continuous mining operations.
