Deposit Appraisal Study

A Deposit Appraisal Study (DAS) is a formal, documented technical and economic assessment of a mineral deposit that synthesizes all available exploration data to evaluate the deposit's potential merits and guide decisions on whether to proceed with further investment. Unlike informal appraisals, a Deposit Appraisal Study is a structured report prepared by qualified geologists, mining engineers, metallurgists, and financial analysts, and may form the basis for corporate reporting or investor communications in accordance with applicable securities regulations and reporting standards such as JORC, NI 43-101, or SAMREC.  The structure of a Deposit Appraisal Study typically includes sections on geological setting and mineralization style, exploration history and data quality review, resource estimation methodology and classification, preliminary metallurgical testwork results, conceptual mining scenarios, high-level capital and operating cost estimates, environmental and social baseline considerations, and a preliminary economic assessment using discounted cash flow analysis.  For bauxite projects, a Deposit Appraisal Study would assess the aluminium content, reactive silica levels, mineralogy, and processing requirements. For gold deposits, it would focus on grade distribution, metallurgical complexity, and proximity to processing infrastructure. For iron ore projects, the study would evaluate grade, tonnage, product specifications, and logistics costs to port. For diamond projects, the study would consider diamond content, size frequency distribution, and estimated stone valuations. The study provides a transparent and auditable basis for investment decisions and may be disclosed to the market as part of regulatory reporting obligations.
