Civil Works

Civil works in mining refers to the physical construction activities associated with site preparation, earthworks, structural foundations, roads, drainage systems, and infrastructure development required to establish and operate a mine and its associated processing facilities. In bauxite mining, civil works typically include land clearing, overburden removal, construction of haul roads, and preparation of bauxite residue disposal areas. In gold mining, civil works encompass the bulk earthworks for open pit development, construction of run-of-mine (ROM) pads, process plant foundations, tailings storage facility (TSF) embankment construction, and accommodation camp development. In iron ore mining, civil works are often extensive due to the scale of operations, including port construction, ore stockyard pavements, ship-loading facilities, rail bridge construction, and water pipeline corridors. In diamond mining, civil works include the construction of processing plant plinths, coarse tailings storage areas, and security fencing infrastructure. Civil works are typically executed in accordance with geotechnical design specifications, environmental impact assessments, and civil construction standards. The quality of civil works directly affects the safety, operational reliability, and long-term performance of mining infrastructure, and poor execution can result in costly rectifications, production delays, or safety incidents.
