Blast Design

The technical planning of an explosive detonation event specifying hole diameter, depth, spacing, burden, stemming length, explosive type, initiation sequence, and delay timing to achieve desired rock fragmentation and blast performance. Blast design aims to produce optimal fragmentation for efficient loading and crushing, control flyrock and vibration, minimise ore dilution, and maintain safe bench geometry. In open pit gold, iron ore, and bauxite mines, blast design is tailored to rock properties, equipment requirements, and proximity of sensitive receptors.
