Backfill Material
Any material used to refill excavated voids, open cuts, or underground workings after ore extraction. Common backfill materials include waste rock, sand, tailings slurry, cemented paste fill, and hydraulic fill. Selection depends on availability, structural requirements, drainage properties, and environmental considerations. In bauxite and iron ore mining, overburden waste rock is commonly used, while in gold mining, cemented paste fill may be required for structural integrity in underground stopes.
