Availability Factor

The proportion of scheduled operating time during which a piece of equipment or system is in a functioning, operational state and available to perform productive work, expressed as a percentage. Availability factor accounts for time lost to planned preventive maintenance and unplanned breakdowns. In bauxite, iron ore, and gold mining, high equipment availability is a critical driver of production output and unit cost, and is a primary focus of maintenance management programs.
